Another Year Older

by Kelly Matsuura

I lift the lid on the old shoe box, my heart fluttering as it usually does. I don’t think much about Sir Thomas once Christmas is over and the decorations are all packed away but on the first of December each year, I’m always anxious to see him again.

As I lift him out, I gasp in delight. His beard is peppery, bushier, and his eyebrows are now a soft grey. Is he getting a pot belly, too?

No longer the young man given to me at sixteen, he’s a matured fifty-year-old. As am I.

Our little Christmas secret.

THE END

Oh the magic of Christmas!!! I love that Sir Thomas keeps up with his gift recipient. What happens if he is no longer aging…. that would be a horror story there! Congratulations!

Thanks, Dawn. Were you expecting a horror story? I do like writing sweet stories too, lol!

Thanks, Shawn! Yes, he’s a Nutcracker doll, so kept in a box until Xmastime 🙂
